Entrepreneuring Through The Holidays

We are at the busiest time of the year. Not only are their social commitments and preparations for the holidays, but for a lot of us it is a busy time for our businesses! So how do we survive the holidays without our personal lives getting in the way of our business AND not sacrificing social events with entrepreneurial responsibilities?

Here are a few tips that I'm going to use this year so I can "Entrepreneur my way through the Holidays," without losing my mind!

1. PRIORITIZE

As an entrepreneur, we have ideas rolling around in our minds all of the time. A creative mind never sleeps. But that doesn't mean we have to pursue all of our creative projects right NOW. Decide what is most important for you to get done this month and see what can wait until after the holidays.

2. WRITE A "TO DO LIST"

Like I mentioned, as an entrepreneur our minds can bounce from one thing to another within a mere moment. In order to successfully get every task done that we have chosen as a "priority," we need to be clear on what and how it will be completed. Make a "To Do" of everything you want to accomplish and the time it will likely take you. It sounds obvious, but it will feel less chaotic and we can be more realistic about what we will have time for.

3. MAKE A PLAN

Now you know what you need to get done, it's time to make a plan. Look at your calendar and schedule your social events, family celebrations and other commitments. When can you schedule your business errands, paperwork, social media, writing, designing etc.? Once you have a plan in place you can be honest with yourself and others about how much you can take on for the holiday season. Which brings us to the next tip...

4. COMMUNICATE

Your spouse or close friends who know you well understand that you won't be able to focus your energy on them if you have a "Big Sale" or Business Event. With family or other friends, it's not so easy. You have to explain to the people you care about that this is a busy time and lay it all on the table for them. Let other people know when you will not be available and when you will be fully committed to spending time with them. This respects your business and your time to enjoy the holidays with loved ones.

5. COMMIT & FOCUS

This can be really tough, I'm not going to lie. There are a TON of distractions during "the most wonderful time of the year". Christmas movies, music, presents to be wrapped, shopping to be done, delicious cookies... holiday distractions will be everywhere! Stay committed to your plan on when you will work and stay focused on your tasks. The same goes for your social plans. Your business will keep going and your phone will keep dinging no matter where you are. Commit to "unplugging" yourself when you plan to give your time and focus to family & friends. They will appreciate it and you can actually enjoy the special moments!

I hope this helped you devise a plan for surviving the holidays!!!Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year :)
