Working for Free To Gain Freedom
"Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won't, so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can't."
I recently stumbled upon this quote on Instagram, posted with by a Female Entrepreneur that I admire and follow. This quote explains everything about where I am and where I want to be. Most people don't realize what the journey of an entrepreneur really looks like because people start paying more attention to you when you reach the second stage of this quote. Before a lot of "Boss Babes" are recognized for leading their "Fempire", there were years of struggle and hard work they spent to get to the point of Luxury cars and professional photos.
I know this because I am still living my few years like most people won't. So what does this mean exactly? For those of you who have a career not as entrepreneur, you may be thinking "I work hard everyday too. I work long hours, put in the extra blood, sweat and tears and set goals for myself". I never aim to discredit others who are working jobs apart from being an entrepreneur because I still do both and know both working worlds. So what's the difference?
The difference is for the first few years as an entrepreneur, we sacrifice starting our businesses while working other jobs to make a living. We are willing to first invest our money into a dream, then when that has been paid off (hopefully) we celebrate that our biz is breaking even. Yes, you heard right! We get excited when we are working for FREE. Then it's like a dream come true when you are making money from your own business and you don't need additional income from another job.
That is why I refer to it as "working for free to gain freedom". Once you are working only for yourself, it's a relief, but you are still putting in the same long days just towards your own business. After you have built and developed a team to work with you,then finally you can experience the "freedom lifestyle" you see on Instagram! The "working from anywhere" dream can finally come true. By this time you have earned it and trained yourself to work the early mornings, weekends or late nights to have more flexibility in life. At this point, you have also successfully became a leader and trained a team that you can trust to run the show when you need a break.
I am grateful for this time in my life because it is training me to be self-motivated so when I do have this freedom, I don't get lazy! The hustle right now is only preparing me for the future and I will appreciate the success so much more once I am not working double duty, 7 days a week. I am very proud to say I am finally not working to pay for my business and I've hit the next stage of working for free! Now only a few more years of working for free until I pay myself. I am going into my 3rd year of business and they say it takes 5 years until you really make money and know you've made it. It's been a climb, but I keep my eyes looking upward.
