Do you “unplug” on Vacation?
The word “unplug” has become a buzz word on social media. We are so connected all of the time and we all need a break sometimes from the online social word. So how does this work when you are an entrepreneur with an online based business ? Depending on the size of your biz you can take a break and delegate tasks to other people so you can “unplug” without stressing over answering emails, posting on social media or updating blogs or websites. For some of us, we are the only ones who run everything so how can we “unplug” without sacrificing our sales or momentum ?
This week I have been on vacation for the first time since I started my business. I’ve gone for weekends away before, but this getaway is 5 days away from my routine. Now in the past I have completely unplugged for 48 hours. When I did that I allowed myself to recharge, but I don’t think I personally “need” to completely unplug like that when I’m on vacation. Sometimes it can cause us more stress if we don’t answer to anything for days!
So what did I choose to do this time ?!
I decided to be realistic. I knew I would not be happy completely unplugging for the week so I committed to posting once a day and doing some Instagram stories. I answered to DMs if they were important, but did not stress about the algorithm side of things for my social media. I also planned my product launches around my trip. I new if I launched my new collection before vacation I would be too distracted to enjoy my time. So it’s at home waiting for me and it has given me something to look forward to once I’m home! That was tough since I never “wait” for launches when everything is ready but I knew with no coverage back home this wasn’t a good time to rev things up !
My advice to you is do what’s best for you. If you feel like you need more of a break from social media, emails or anything business related, then take the time you need. If you are presented with great opportunities while you are away that you don’t want to ignore, than go for it. We are entrepreneurs because we like working for ourselves. This isn’t a 9-5 lifestyle which means we get to decide what’s “normal” for us and make the decisions when to check in and check out. If you have to “plan” breaks or downtime, do it ! Nothing is wrong with scheduled relaxation like you schedule your workout time. Do what works best for you while on vacation and make sure you enjoy yourself and stay present, but don’t feel guilty when you connect to WiFi for a few minutes a day !
Hope you enjoyed today’s topic, I’m currently in Vegas and my biz time is up ;)
