The Day I Walked into Saks Fifth Avenue

This past weekend I was shopping in Toronto, mainly at the Eaton Centre and it was VERY BUSY! Before I went to the mall, I made a little visit to the NEW Saks Fifth Avenue. I was so excited to check it out because I remember them announcing it's Grand Opening last year! I thought it too would be busy with lots of Toronto tourists, especially on a Saturday. So I walked up to the entrance that was beautifully decorated for Christmas shopping. There were lots of people walking out from the Bay and taking photos of the holiday decor. So I figured it would be much the same inside the store, but I was WRONG.

Now let's look at the contributing factors, before relating this situation to the BIGGER picture:

1. NEW Saks 5th Avenue in Toronto - lots of social media buzz, gorgeous store, perfect location

2. The Eaton Centre (right across the street) AND The Bay (right beside it) is PACKED with shoppers

3. Beautiful layout with Designer Labels and Worldwide, well-known Brands

OUTCOME: Only a handful of people in the store!!!

This is a representation of how many people are deciding to live a mediocre life, even though they want a "designer life". There are so many of us that have our faces pressed up against the window of the life we want, but don't have the courage to open the door and walk in!

Did I go in ? You bet I did! I didn't plan on buying anything, but the possibility was open and available to me. I admired the beautiful clothes, shoes and accessories and enjoyed seeing high fashion and designer items in person. These pieces were physically in my reach and at first glance, I had feelings of unworthiness or as if I didn't deserve or belong in the store. But hey, I wanted to go in and I look around! Once I was there, I realized that I wasn't getting looks of disapproval of the salespeople or other shoppers. The only person that was judging my presence in the store was ME.

If we act and believe that we are worthy of something (or an opportunity) other people will treat us like we are too.

Confidence is key. When we want a bigger and better life for ourselves we truly have to believe it is within our reach. If we sit back and keep wishing or hoping for something, chances are it is not going to happen. We have to step out of our comfort zones and see, hear and feel what we want. Will it be terrifying at first?! You bet! Just glancing at those price tags, made my head spin. BUT if I really wanted a specific designer item , I KNOW I could figure out a way to get it.

The same principles can be applied for our lives. What's your dream job or career? Will it bring you happiness? Will it make you want to jump out of bed in the morning? Does it terrify you to even attempt it? Do you actually believe you can do it? Does living your best life scare you as much as it excites you?

What irrational reasons or road blocks are stopping you from going after your dreams? Is it really impossible or are your limiting beliefs creating unnecessary road blocks? This week get honest with yourself on what you desire in life and how you could "browse" options you never thought possible. Stop believing that all you can do is admire and stare through the window of your "designer life". Open the door to limitless possibility and shop around a little before you settle on a discounted version of your life.
