Are You Lazy or Afraid?

Now this blog is for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs or anyone who wants to manifest more success in their life. So you may be wondering WHY the word "lazy" made the title. I don't think of myself as a lazy person and you probably don't think you are either. Everyone can get lazy from time to time, from lack of motivation, exhaustion or mental burnout.

But how do we know when we are acting out of "laziness" or out of fear?

Have you ever finished a project and felt like you "half-assed" it? We normally know when we don't put our 100% into something, but how often do we think about WHY? Sometimes it is because we run out of time and have too much on our plate. Other times it isn't as important as other tasks or projects so it gets slapped together. Other times we can procrastinate and it ends up not being our best effort. We know when we have been lazy when we have the time, effort, motivation but allow distractions to take precedence.

How do we know when we half-assed a project because we were afraid?

You may be thinking, why would I be afraid? It's not like I'm risking my life here, I don't recall cliff diving as a "To-Do" last week. I'm not talking about that kind of fear. I'm talking about fear of failure, fear of vulnerability and perfectionism.

I have had times in my life when I have not lived up to my full potential because I was afraid of not being perfect. If I did not try to be perfect, there was no risk of not living up to my own expectations. I have also had experience in which I held by my knowledge, opinions or creative ideas because I was afraid of not being accepted by others. And I'm sure we can all say we have not attempted something because we were afraid of "failure," or not being good at something new.

I have also been afraid of succeeding. If I put in my 100% what if I exceed my own expectations? Will I be able to handle the supply and demand? Will I have the skills to move onward and upward after this success? What if I can't handle it and everything that I worked for crumbles beneath me? This is the type of fear that we often deny or do not recognize from our own behaviors.

So what is the problem with not giving our 100% ? It's a safe bet isn't it?

If we want to growth, especially as entrepreneurs, we have to take risks. Without risk there is no reward. We will never learn anything new if we don't make mistakes, attempt things that scare us or try new things. It doesn't feel great being "new" or a "beginner" for people who enjoy being experts in their business or field, but it does open doors for growth and to connect with people who can teach us skills we have may not developed yet. We can also miss out on sharing our greatest strengths with the world. If we are too afraid to be vulnerable we won't connect with people on a deeper level. As an entrepreneur, relationships are very important and if you want to be a great leader you have to be able to tap into other people's emotions. Sometimes this means being honest and open about your own. People like people they can relate to. If we are only "perfect" all of the time, who can we relate to? Perfect doesn't make us unique either. The world needs your authenticity. We can share our authenticity with being real.

This week I challenge you to put your whole ass into something. Pull up those big girl panties and give it all you got.
