Insta Life Vs. Real Life

We all know Instagram is a highlight reel of people's lives, but as entrepreneurs we face a little extra pressure to portray a glamourous life full or freedom and excitement. Today's post is all about how to separate social media and real life as an entrepreneur.

It can be tough not to compare yourself to others, especially when you are an entrepreneur who lives on social media. So let's keep a few things in mind.

Not all Entrepreneurs are successful because of the business listed on their profile.

Some people who portray living a lavish life are not living this life because of their business. Some are, do not get me wrong. But there are a lot of people out there who identify as entrepreneurs, but have another job that has contributed to their lifestyle, wealth or success. Also there are people (women and men) who have a business but their partner is also successful in their own career. So you are not just seeing the outcome of one person's success, but two.

Photos tell part of the Story.

Like I mentioned, if someone is posting photos of vacations all of the time, it doesn't mean they are always on a beach. They could be highlighting previous trips or the same one after they are already home working all day. Also people choose the moments to post. They could be living in a small apartment and be posting photos in another person's home because it "looks" better on their feed. Not all the images you see are a accurate representation of people's everyday lives.

Photos are staged.

As entrepreneurs we are experts at making things look good, that's part of marketing. So yes we will clean and reposition an entire room to get a perfect photo. We will ask our partners to take a billion photos before posting one. A lot of us will make sure our make-up and hair look great before even stepping in front of a camera. We want to show our best, but it doesn't mean it's real. There are also hundreds of photo editing apps, so if you think everyone walks around looking flawless, you are wrong.

There are successful Entrepreneurs with few followers.

This can also be misconstrued the opposite way. We fall into habits thinking if people don't have a lot of followers that their business sucks. This can be so far from the truth. Some people like to keep their personal life and pages low key and just be themselves. We put so much effort and time into our business pages that we want to be real and low maintenance on our own accounts. There are also business owners of multi-million dollar companies who will avoid having an account all together for privacy and security!

LASTLY - Becoming an Entrepreneur does NOT equal instant success and a large life.

It's okay not to turn insta-glam overnight! Many entrepreneurs start off living a super busy life with little to no glamour because they are putting their effort and money into their business. Don't feel pressure to be portray a super successful image right away. People will value your authenticity and real life because one day they will be so proud to say they knew you when you started and will be happy to see how far you've come. You don't want to be remembered for being that biz owner that let everything blow up their ego right away.

I hope you enjoyed today's topic! I know everyone can relate to this at some point in their journey! Go ahead, edit those posts but remember to also keep it real and stay true to yourself because that is something you will never regret.
